BCMHSUS Research Day: “Making Connections: Strengthening Mental Health and Wellness through Research”

BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services’ Research Day on the 7th of November, 2023 saw many distinguished speakers from the field.

Under the theme Making Connections: Strengthening Mental Health and Wellness through Research,” clinicians, researchers and individuals with lived expertise came together to discuss advances in the field of substance use and mental health, and to further them through meaningful conversations.

Our team boasted several speakers at the event. Dr. Tonia Nicholls collaborated with peer expert Flo Ranville to present the opening talk on the unique needs of women with criminal justice involvement.

Ph.D. student, Faith Eiboff spoke on the topic – ‘Intimate partner victimization and mental health disorders among adults experiencing homelessness and mental illness: A gender-specific analysis’.

Karen Peterson and Steve Pelland presented a talk on  ‘Evaluating the provision of seamless and integrated care in BC correctional centres’ and Armaan Rajan presented a talk on – ‘VERDICT: Patients’ Experiences of Video Review Board Hearings Since COVID-19.’

Kudos to Faith who also won the Best Poster award for her research titled – ‘“I was clean for a year and it was because I wasn’t homeless”: Exploring the mental health and substance use needs of homeless and/or precariously housed women.’

Given the success of this year’s BCMHSUS Research Day, we look forward to next year’s conference!
