** ANNOUNCEMENT – Seeking Postdoctoral Fellowship Applications: Drs. Christian Schutz and Tonia Nicholls are eager to bring an enthusiastic and productive Postdoctoral Fellow onto our ROAR Team!!. ROAR Canada stands for Reducing Overdose and Relapse: Concurrent Attention to Neuropsychiatric Ailments and Drug Addiction. ROAR CANADA is a five-year research study funded by Health Canada, focused on people being treated for severe concurrent disorders.


Prospective Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate Students

We are not currently hiring (paid) research assistants.

However, we are always looking for enthusiastic and driven undergraduate students to volunteer with existing projects and/or to conduct Honours theses or Directed Studies projects. Our team is always happy to consider new volunteers, undergraduate students looking to obtain research experience and graduate students and trainees.

We are a diverse group, including students with backgrounds in criminology, psychology, nursing, medicine, population and public health etc! Dr. Nicholls has supervised Masters and Doctoral students, Medical students and Postdoctoral Fellows completing programs within the Faculty of Medicine at UBC and the Department of Psychology at SFU, in addition to trainees completing professional programs. We always welcome applications from bright and motivated candidates whose research interests align with those of our team. Dr. Nicholls enthusiastically supports prospective and current students and trainees who work with us to apply for the numerous grants and awards that UBC/SFU, BCMHSUS, CIHR, SSHRC offer to support students. Junior (undergraduate) and senior (graduate students, medical students, postdoctoral fellows) trainees on our team have been very successful in obtaining competitive university (see here and here), provincial (e.g., MSFHR  – C. Greaves, C. Wilson, S. Desmarais) federal (e.g., CIHR masters, dissertation and postdoctoral awards – D. Greig, A. Butler, S. Desmarais, F. Eiboff) and international (e.g., IAFMHS Derek Eaves/Chris Webster awards; APLS student awards; D. Greig, A. Butler, S. Desmarais, F. Eiboff, J. Krentz, M. Almond) to support travel, research, and salaries.
