This week, Dr. Nicholls was invited to present at not only 1, but 2 conferences! At the Women’s Health Research Symposium, Dr. Nicholls and peer consultant, Florence Ranville, had a very succesful talk titled, The Intersections between Mental Health and the Criminal Justice System: A Women’s Health Perspective. Dr. Nicholls spoke on the importance of recognizing women’s unique health needs in settings where criminal justice and mental health intersect, and highlighted the challenges that still remain in clinical practice and research.
The next day, at the BCMHSUS Concurrent Disorders Conference, Dr. Nicholls presented a novel intervention currently under development. Titled R3: Recidivism Reduction and ReHUBilitation: Developing a new intervention for people returning to community from correctional centres, Dr. Nicholls introduced the need for a recidivism-focused program for post-incarceration individuals who also experience serious mental illness, and the building blocks for what a program may look like.
Congratulations to Dr. Nicholls for having 2 very successful talks in a busy week!
